So, what's all this about then?

Ooh, hello, a visitor! Do come on in, the kettle's on..

So, I'm guessing you've probably not happened upon my site by chance, or perhaps you've been looking for some info on photography or photoshop. Well, I can't promise miracles, but I hope you'll find something of interest here.

So, introductions. I'm Richard Olpin, 40 years old, live in Gloucestershire, UK.

Recently I've been getting quite into my Digital Photography. I'm still very much just a hobbyist, though it seems I'm doing something right as recently I've had people actually wanting to buy some of my photos for various projects, both printed and online, so it seems I've now accidentally become a semi-professional photographer. That wasn't entirely planned but it would certainly be nice if I could make a few quid from my hobby and buy myself some better kit :)

It's fair to say I had a good example set by my father as he was an excellent photographer, semi professional for years shooting everything from sports events, portraits, weddings and acting as the official publicity photographer for my Mum's local dramatic society. As a young lad I'd often accompany my Dad, assisting at weddings and messing around in the darkroom at home, though as I grew up I got into other things and didn't do any 'real' photography for years other than odd snaps with my compact.

Anyway, having given up on the 'rat race' and quit the day job I now have rather more time on my hands and as my Martial Arts have become my job, I really needed a new hobby, so I took the plunge and bought myself a nice digital SLR. The rest is currently a work-in-progress..

I'm somewhat frustrated by rather defective colour vision (yer typical red-green colour blind) so my apologies therefore is some of them aren't perfectly (or even properly) colour-balanced. Sorry, but I can't always tell! As a result I'll often tend towards mono or HDR images, but that's ok as those are both styles I enjoy anyway.

I'm planning to pursue my photography more seriously now and currently studying a digital photography course with the Open University and planning to work towards a distinction within the Royal Photographic Society later in the year.
